Whilst we eagerly await the start of the competitive competitions with one more pre-season friendly we thought we would trawl the archives and see what happened on various Saturdays the 9th September through out the ages.
We look back first at September 9th 1972 and the Quins hosted Narberth in the park in a friendly game. It was a close fought encounter with the Quins emerging victorious 7 points to three with the late Spencer Jones (who later coached the Quins) scoring a try and club legend Howard Isles kicking a penalty from the position of prop!
Next we fast forward to 1994 and the visit of Cardiff Institute of Higher Education where the Quins dished out a lesson to the young guns. Scoring four tries through Gethin Jacob, Robert Phillips, Anthony Dragone and Nick Jackson followed by two conversions and 4 penalties from Simon Rogers the Quins ran out worthy winners 36 – 14.
Our final lookback takes us to 2005 when Pontypool visited the park and in what is always a hard fought game the Quins emerged victors 6 -3 which must have been nerve wracking for all involved.
Join us every week where we will take a trip down memory lane of fixtures gone by.
