Cup rugby is continuing for our Junior teams. A week last Sunday the Under 16s welcomed Carmarthen Athletic to Parc Y Deri in Abergwili and in front of a sizeable crowd the both teams were a credit to their respective clubs and served up a real cracker of a cup tie that was only settled with the last play of the game.
It was the Athletic who took the early plaudits scoring the first try and continued to hold the lead up to the final minute when after some dogged forward play the Quins bundled over the line to take the win 17pts to 15pts.
Try scorers for the Quins were Zac Elvy, Steffan Evans and Gruff Williams, the conversion as scored by Elis Price.
They will now face Llandeilo in the final.
This last weekend the Under 13s had their semi final down in Burry Port and emerged victorious 35pts to 7pts. It was a pleasing performance that parents, players and coaches can be extremely proud of. The scorers in that game were 2 tries for winger Harri Davies, 2 tries for outside half Gwion Evans, 1 try by winger Sam Pearson and 5 conversions to centre Gruff Collier. Whilst we always applaud the scorers on this occasion this was very much a team effort with everyone playing their part in the scores.
The under 14s also continued their journey in the plate competition this weekend and ran out winners against Pontyberem 56pts to 5pts and they now progress to the semi final stage of the competition. The scorers were Ellis Jones 4 tries, Owain Edwards 2 tries, Charlie Thomas, Rhidian John, Rhydian Edwards and Cameron Williams all bagging a try each and Carwyn Jones slotting 3 conversions. Again it was a real team effort with everyone playing their part in a successful morning.
Future cup matches are lines up for the Under 12’s who head to Felinfoel on 6th March kick off time to be confirmed and the Under 15’s host Tumble on Sunday 13th February at the park with a 10.30am kick off.
We know that all age groups welcome any additional support and you will not be disappointed with the standard of rugby served up by these Future Mighty Quins. We will bring you more news as and when the games are played.
