Throwback Thursday Memories

As has become customary we look back at games gone by on a Thursday for Throwback Thursday. We wouldn’t be able to see these results from long ago without the hard work of a few club stalwarts who have kept these records that we are now able to share online, namely Keith Burton, Alan Bowen and Percy Jones to mention a few.

We start with the most recent and a visit to the park for Cross Keys in 2011 where unfortunately the Quins lost 10pts to 7.

Another game to evade the Quins was a visit to Newport back in 2005 where the Quins fell 30pts to 1t at Rodney Parade a ground with its partisan crowd is always difficult.

Back in 1994 and another defeat this time away to Kidwelly, in what was a keenly fought contest the home side ran out winners 13pts to 10.

In our featured game this week we head back 38 years and a visit to the park by Gowerton for a West Wales League encounter.

The Quins team that day was

1 Kevin Bowen
2 Howard Iles
3 David Woodhead
4 Cecil Rees
5 David Tyler
6 Richard Thomas
7 Hywel Griffiths
8 Richard Ratti
9 Adrian Wray 1 4
10 Dylan Richards 1 3
11 Peter Jenkins
12 Steve Thomas 1 4
13 Paul Thomas
14 Nigel Langdon 2 8
15 Roger Evans

As we can see tries were score by Adrian (Harry) Wray, Steve Thomas and Nigel Langdon with one penalty for Dylan Richards. The Quins ran out winners 19 pts to 3.

We have two further results firstly in 1966 the Quins visited Crynant but lost 11 pts to 9 with the Quins points coming from tries from Aubrey Davies and Delme Davies and a penalty by Andy Barnett.

Finally way back in 1955 Haverfordwest visited the park and with the Quins running out winners 33pts to nil unfortunately we do not have the scorer list for this game however, this 1955/1956 season the Quins went on to win the West Wales Challenge Cup for the first time.
