We’d like to extend a big thank you to Saturday’s match sponsors, 14th September.
Quins Players 1974/75 Reunion
It’s hard to believe that fifty years have passed since the club celebrated its centenary season and what a memorable season it was with the Quins playing London Welsh, Llanelli, Metropolitan Police, Captain Crawshay’s XV with an Invitation XV playing against a President’s XV.
During that season in the West Wales League, they won ten out of seventeen games played, with six losses and one drawn. They played six games in the West Wales Cup, winning five but unexpectedly losing to Llandybie in the final. They had a memorable ten-day end of season tour to Germany, winning three out of three games played.
As this is the first home game in the new Super Rygbi Cymru season, it is fitting that the club welcomes back for the first home fixture against Swansea 26 players from the 1974/75 season along with some guests with close connections to the club. Sadly, nine of the players who turned out for the club fifty years ago are no longer with us.
The ex-players of 50 years ago who were in attendance on Saturday;
Andy Evans, Emrys Tippett, Robert Taylor, Gareth Lewis, Percy Jones, Dewi George, Clive Pugh, Milwyn Jones, Ivor Dyer, Gareth Jones, Robert Wright, John Thomas, Paul Morris, Glyn Evans, Timothy Edwards, Bryan Llewelyn, Howard Iles, Roger Evans, Martin Stevens, David Dyer, Roger Walters, Brian Furlong, Dai ‘Tumble’ Thomas. Graham Walters and special guests Hugh Griffiths and Robert ‘Sonny’ Thomas.

Rhodri Lewis & Family
We welcome Rhodri and his family and friends in what is a Memorial Day to Rhodri’s father Derek ‘Blews’ Lewis who sadly passed away recently.
Blews, as he was more commonly known, played his first games as a 17-year-old during the 1953/54 season and although we do not have any playing records prior to 1965, and having represented the Quins for 13 seasons, we can be sure he would have played well more than 200 games.
He played regularly for his regiment when doing National Service from 1955/55 and played for Swansea RFC. He was a member of the team which won the West Wales Challenge Cup for the first time in the club’s history in season 1955/56 beating Crynant in a reply match St. Helens – 8pts to 6 after an initial 3 all draw.
As good a centre as he was an outside half, he was one of the most gifted and talented players to have worn the Cardinal, Amber and Black and was chosen as the outside half for the Carmarthen Quins Dream Team for the years 1950 to 2000.
