In addition to hosting the prestigious Carmarthenshire GMG Finals Day, we’re delighted to be able to watch and support three young Quins teams who will be going for glory in the Cup competitions on Sunday 27th April.
10:00 Sunday – Under 12s
Playing their first year of competitive rugby they are the latest in a long line of Quins Under 12s teams that have made the final. They will be keen and eager to continue the Quins success in the competition and lift the trophy on home turf, particularly after playing all their games away so far.
To get to the final they travelled to Amman United in the preliminary round and recorded a convincing 36pts to 7pts victory, then they travelled to Cefneithin where they ran out winners again 43pts to 7pts, in the semi-final they faced a tough task away to Lampeter and with the lead changing hands several times it was the Quins who held their nerve and got the decisive score to take the victory 33pts to 26pts.
They will face a tough Ammanford side in the final, who they have played twice this season with both sides recording a victory each. What better occasion to take the spoils than a cup final.
14:45 Sunday – Under 15s
The Under 15s will play in their first cup final since they were victorious at under 12s. They also won the plate competition at Under 13s and 14s.
On their way to the final they took on Furnace in the 1st round and managed to record a pleasing 44pts to 15pts victory at home in Abergwili.
The next game was the semi final and the young Quins hosted Newcastle Emlyn in a game that had to be seen to be believed. Two teams who went at it hammer and tongs from the first whistle in an open and entertaining game saw the lead change hands several times but with five minutes to go Newcastle Emlyn opened what looked like an unassailable 10-point lead 31pts to 21pts. The Quins however, were not done and stayed in the fight until the very death scoring a converted try to get points back before with the very last play of the match they dived over for a try to take the victory 33pts to 31pts.
In the final they will face Burry Port coached by ex Quins 1st Team Captain Ian Jones and Darren Daniel. An exciting game is in prospect and the Quins boys have prepared as much and as best as they possibly can.
16:15 Sunday – Under 16s
Finally, our Under 16s in their last year of Junior Rugby have rightly taken their place in the final. With a stop start season, due to district and Scarlets commitments and an horrendous run of injuries, the boys have battled hard to get to the final.
In round one they travelled to Llandeilo where they recorded a well-deserved 31pts to 14pts victory.
In the semi-final they hosted Newcastle Emlyn in the park and in a tight affair with Emlyn leading early on it was the dogged Quins attitude that kept them in game and ultimately on to success with a victory of 17pts to 14pts. If ever there was an advert for the Quins motto of Llwyddiant Trwy Ymdrech – Success Through Endeavour – then this was it.
On Sunday they’ll face Amman United, a team they have met several times in finals through the age groups and they will be looking to finish this season, and their last junior season with a bang.
We hope to see as many Quins supporters as possible at Aberbwili, supporting the event, and particularly the three young Quins teams.
Unfortunately, our Under 14s were unable to overcome a strong Brynamman side, after battling hard, in their semi-final. They can hold their heads high on how they have performed through the season, and there will be learnings to take into under 15s and all at the club wish them all the best.
