Hywel will be missed by everyone at the Quins.
Hywel played his first game for the first XV on the 18th of September 1976 at the Park, against Waunarlwydd. They came away with a victory by 7 points to 4.
He made a total of 89 appearances at either open-side or blind-side flanker.
Hywel’s final appearance was away at Tumble on the 5th of October 1985 with the Quins losing by 29 points to 7.
During his ten seasons with the first XV, he also turned out regularly for the 2nds/United XV and captained the United team in the 1977/78 season.
After hanging up his boots, Hywel joined the committee and served as chairman from seasons 1987/88 to 1996/97.
After finishing as chairman, Hywel continued as a committee man and supported the Quins. Those who knew him well were delighted to see him at the Park for several matches last season.
