Bonus point victory over Cardiff

Operation fortress Carmarthen Park is gathering pace with a second home win in succession secured on Saturday.

Carmarthen Quins welcomed Cardiff to the Park on Saturday 28th September in the third round of Super Rygbi Cymru.

A defeat away from home, to Aberavon at Talbot Athletic, the previous week was to be rectified to keep a march on the top of the league table.

The disappointment of the defeat at the Talbot Athletic was all but a distant memory yesterday with the Quins securing a 31-19 victory over the visitors.

The evergreen Aled Thomas made a return at fly half bringing valuable experience to the young backline.

Hooker Lewis Morgan opened the scoring after 15 minutes, crossing the whitewash for his fifth try of the season! Thomas converted to put Quins 7-0 up.

On the 20 minute mark Thomas added a penalty building a score for the home team.

James Newnian crossed for Quins’ second try at the half hour mark with Thomas once again securing the conversion.

A third try followed just minutes later, this time scored by scrum half Rhodri Davies. Thomas adding the conversion to put the Quins 24-0 up.

Cardiff hit back before half time with a try for fullback Matty Young, and conversion by outside half Osian Darwin-Lewis.

Captain Tom Phillips is yellow carded but it’s Quins that open the scoring in the second half. Iori Badham crosses for Quins’ fourth try of the game, securing the all-important bonus point. Thomas once again adds the conversion.

It’s the visitors who finish the game strongly, crossing for two late tries, but the victory and bonus point are safe in Quins hands.
