Super Rygbi Cymru 2025-26 got underway for Carmarthen Quins at Dunraven Brewery Field on Saturday 13thSeptember.
Despite a seven-try clash, three for Quins and four for the home side, there were plenty of errors from both sides with a bulk of the second half played in between the 22s.
With three tries a piece, the Quins edged ahead in the closing minutes of the game through Elis Price’s conversion.
The visitors pushed ahead just minutes later holding a lead of 20-24 but it was Bridgend who finished the game strongest showing great determination until the final second to ensure a victory in their opening game.
Speaking after the game, Director of Rugby and Team Manager Steff Thomas said,
“I’m disappointed. We can’t come away from home, make all those mistakes and expect to win.
“There’s a lot for us to take away from the game. We still could have sneaked it even with the errors that we had in that game today.
“Credit to Bridgend, they capitalised on all our mistakes and punished us every single time.”
The team now has to dust themselves off and prepare for the second round on Thursday 18th September, against Cardiff at the Arms Park.
Steff went on to say: “We have a bit to go away with; we’ll look at the video and then we have a quick turnaround to Cardiff next Thursday.
“We have to be sharper, more efficient in everything we do. The boys were gutted at the end, and we can hopefully use that to fuel us into Cardiff next week.”
