Team announced for knockout game against Pontypool

Carmarthen Quins welcome Pontypool to Carmarthen Park on Saturday 18 April in Super Rygbi Cymru’s Wildcard round.

Quins, finishing in 7th place in the table, take on 10th placed Pontypool with a place in next week’s quarter finals up for grabs.

Aberavon took on Bridgend in Thursday night’s Wildcard Round with Bridgend securing their place in the quarter-finals next weekend. They will take on our opponents from last weekend, Ebbw Vale.

A victory for Quins at the Park on Saturday will see us progress to the quarter-finals and take on table toppers Cardiff.

The other quarter-finals next week are as follows:

  • Llandovery v RGC
  • Newport v Swansea

Shaun Evans returns to captain the side and returns to the now established backrow of Iestyn Richards and double centurion Lewys Millin.

Ifan James and Lewis Morgan retain their places in the front row with Connor Allen returning to the tighthead berth. Tom Phillips and Ryan Bean combine in the second row to add valuable experience to the pack.

Quins’ backline is stacked with exciting young talent, with an average age of just 21.

Scrum half Rhodri Lewis links up with outside half Steff Jac Jones, who’s making only his second appearance in Quins colours having made his debut last month against Swansea.

The centre partnership of Gabe McDonald and Jac Howells return after stellar performances last weekend. Quins youth graduate Tomos Lewis keeps his place on the wing after making his senior debut last week.

It’s a first start since February for Iori Badham on the opposite wing with Scarlets Academy’s Ioan Jones featuring at fullback.
