PHIL BEYNON
Carmarthen Quins were proud to arrange a testimonial match at the end of the 1998/99 season for Phil in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the club. He made a total of 357 appearances between 1984 and 2003 and is third on the list of Quins players with the most appearances.
He captained the 1st XV in seasons 1991/92; 1992/93; 1993/94 & 1996/97. He played a record 288 league matches ending up with a tally of 53 tries.
He was a winger in his Youth playing days with the Quins but moved to open side flanker with the senior team establishing himself as an outstanding player, always leading by example.
When deciding on a Dream Team for the seasons 1950-2000, a jury of 12 ex-players not only chose Phil as the team’s open side flanker, but also chose him as the team’s captain with the final accolade of him being chosen as the Dream Team Player.
This feature is about a testimonial match in 1999 when Ieuan Evans (who had played with Phil at Youth and Senior level with the Quins), made a guest appearance in Phillip Beynon’s Select XV against a Quins team chosen by the Quins Committee.
