Friendly against Newcastle Emlyn this Thursday – Croesawu bois Emlyn i’r Parc

This Thursday night we will play host to our friends from Newcastle Emlyn RFC in the first of three all-important pre-season friendlies.

Following on from Saturday’s fantastic day in honour of club stalwart Haydn Pugh, we are extremely excited to continue with preparations ahead of the forthcoming 2024-25 Super Rygbi Cymru season.

With the weather currently looking a little more autumnal for Thursday we would recommend that you pack a mac, but a spot of drizzle certainly won’t dampen the mood or the on-field action!

Carmarthen Quins v Newcastle Emlyn, Thursday 15th August kick-off 19:15 at Carmarthen Park

Brian Jones, Carmarthen Quins President said; “Firstly, I would like to congratulate Newcastle Emlyn on their promotion to the top tier of community rugby – the Welsh Premiership. It’s a fantastic achievement that is well deserved and I am sure you are all rightly proud of your success.

“The Quins have been lucky to have an excellent relationship with Emlyn and have helped some of the outstanding talented players that they have produced on their journey to better things.

“We thank you for supporting us over the years and without you it would have been almost impossible for us to be in the Super Rygbi Cymru league.”

Looking ahead to Thursday night’s clash, Quins Director of Rugby Steff Thomas said;

“We are extremely proud of the relationship we have with Newcastle Emlyn and look forward to continuing our partnership over the coming seasons.

“During my time, Rhys Jones, Euros Evans, Emyr Jones, Josh Turnbull, Steff Thomas and Gareth Thomas have all made huge contributions in their times with the Quins.”

Turnbull joined the club as an 18-year-old at the start of his journey to becoming a Welsh international and went on to become a member of the Quins coaching team following his team coaching his beloved hometown of Newcastle Emlyn.

Cousins Steff and Gareth Thomas played regularly for the Quins in the Premiership and went on to earn their first professional contracts having made their mark in the semi-professional game. Gareth has since gone on to make over 30 appearances for Wales, with undoubtedly many more still to come, with Steff looking to further his career with Ospreys this coming season.

Thomas went on to say; “We all look on with immense pride at how both Gareth and Steff continue their careers.

“The current Scarlets captain, and Welsh international, Gareth Davies has worn the club colours, whilst getting game time returning from injury and of course last season we were privileged to have Wales centre Scott Williams play for us. Emyr gave us over ten years of amazing service and played a vital part in taking us up the leagues.

“The connections are strong, and with NCE in the Premiership this year we look forward to working closely with them to develop more exciting young players.

“Last and by no means least in the list of connections, sees former Quins youth player and 1st team coach Tomos Marks coaching NCE. May the relationship between the clubs continue to evolve and we look forward to supporting and working with you.”
