Two More Carmarthenshire Cup Finalists.

On Sunday 6 March two more of our Junior teams played in a semi final of the Carmarthenshire Cup.

The Under 12s headed to Felinfoel for their semi final in what was anticipated to be a tough game. The young Quins headed with a squad of 22 and were in good spirits following the previous weeks win away to Porthcawl.

Felinfoel won the toss and gave the Quins the kick off. A nervy start by both sides saw a couple of errors by both sides but they soon settled in to their respective game plans.

The Quins were fired up from the first minute and were soon taking the game to the hosts and some excellent work at the contact area by the forwards allowed the back line to run amok and it wasn’t too long before the Quins were on the scoreboard. It was a galvanising moment and you could see the team grow in confidence and play with style.

After a hard week of preparation the Quins side were not be denied and ran out worthy winners 33pts to 5. The points coming from 2 tries for Rhys James, 3 tries for Jac Johnson and four conversions for Macs Hastings. It would be unfair to single out any individual as it was truly a team performance from 1 to 22 with the pack securing good ball against a bigger side to allow the backs to do what they did.

They now go on to face Newcastle Emlyn in the final who beat Llandeilo in the other Semi Final 48-14. Its all set to be another cracker on 10th April when the two teams face each other ironically at Llandeilo. With Newcastle Emlyn beating the Quins earlier this season revenge will be very much on the minds of the Quins.

Below are the victorious Under 12s and the smiles say it all. Well done to all involved.

In the other Semi Final the Under 16s hosted Tumble at Abergwili and in another tough game the Quins exerted the pressure and were able to control the game for long periods of time and ran out winners 28pts to 3.

They now head to finals day where they will face Llandeilo in the final in what again is bound to be a cracker.

This now sees four Quins teams heading to the Cup Finals with the 13s and 16s already through, it is hoped that the 14s can join them on the day in the Plate final should they beat Amman Utd this coming Sunday. When we have details of finals day we will share this with you but we know that each team would welcome any support and time that our supporters have to give.

It is unprecedented success for the Mini and Junior Section who are going from strength to strength from Under 7’s right through to the Under 16s. The development of children as players and individuals is important to the club and with nearly 200 involved we must give our thanks to all those that volunteer to allow these children to play the game that is rugby.

U12’s Cup Semi Final Team Announcement

Our final team announcement for the weekend is for our Under 12s who are playing their Carmarthenshire Cup Semi Final away to Felinfoel this coming Sunday.

It will be an evenly contested game where the hosts have reached the semi final with a hard fought 17-12 win over Burry Port and the Quins have played all their games on the road firstly despatching of Llandovery 12 nil in the preliminary round and then beating a spirited Penybanc side 53 nil in the Quarter Final.

The young Quins are having a good first season of competitive rugby and the squad continues to grow together on its rugby journey.

The two teams have met once so far this season with the Quins running out victors 26 pts to 7. But we all know cup rugby is all about the day and who wants it the most.

If anyone would like to support the squad they kick off at Felinfoel at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Cup Games

Sunday sees another two age groups in Carmarthenshire Cup Semi Final action. Firstly the Under 15’s will try to the field for the third time after some horrendous weather scuppered the last two games. The opponents at Abergwili on Sunday are Tumble who got to the semi final with a resounding 29 -12 victory over Newcastle Emlyn. The Young Quins guns beat Kidwelly in the preliminary round 38 nil and then Llandovery in the Quarter Final 15-13.

It will be a keen game with all eyes on the final on April 10th against Llandeilo at the Carmarthenshire Cup Finals day. Kick off at Abergwili is 9.30am and we know the players, coaches and parents would love to see any additional Quins supporters in attendance to spur on the boys in pursuit of silverware. The squad are no strangers at winning silverware having won the Carmarthenshire Under 12s Cup and then the subsequent Regional Cup final held at Parc y Scarlets.

The second cup semi final is for the Under 12s who head to Felinfoel for their cup match. We will bring you a match preview and the squad soon.

Quins Youngsters Star for Boys Club of Wales

Last weekend 5 of our Under 16’s hit the road to Bristol to represent the Boys Club of Wales in what was a keen encounter.

Having won the earlier home fixture 44-17 the squad travelled  the short hop over the River Severn in good spirits. The game was fast and furious from the outset with Bristol apparently ran everything which resulted in Bristol getting revenge and won the game 50 -33.

Quins boys were all in the thick of the action and three of the boys got on the score sheet with Elis Thomas scoring 2 tries, Owain Hari-Davies 1 try and Elis Price Chipping in with 2 conversions. Gruff Williams and Dylan Davies also played their part with some superb work on the field.

The Club is extremely proud of their efforts and look forward to their future endeavours and fixtures. Again this shows the development of players is paramount within the club.

Pictured below are: Elis Thomas, Elis Price,  Owain Hari-Davies, Gruff Williams and Dyland Davies.

Carmarthenshire Cup Semi Final for our Under 15’s

This coming Sunday our Under 15’s will welcome Tumble to the park for the semi final of the Carmarthenshire Cup. It is the latest Quins junior team to taste semi final action with the Under 16’s and Under 13’s already through to their respective finals which are scheduled to be played in early April.

So far in the competition the young Quins have beaten Kidwelly in the preliminary round 38 points to nil in what was a tougher encounter than the score suggests. In the Quarter Final the game was much tighter against a big Llandovery side but the Quins emerged victorious 15pts to 13pts.

The squad have been together more or less since mini rugby days and the men behind the team who have developed the players to get to this point are Grant Wrigglesworth (Head Coach), Chris Bowen (Forwards Coach) Jonathon Thomas and Adrian Jones (Assistant Coaches) and not forgetting Lee Edwards as the important fist aider. All of them are rightly proud of the achievements so far this season and previously but will be looking to go that extra step and become the next Quins team to reach a final.

In fact the development of the team has resulted in 12 players playing representative rugby this evening. 10 of the squad will turn out for Carmarthen and District Schools, 1 for Ceredigion Schools and 1 for Llanelli and District Schools. This is testament to the set up but also the dedication of the squad (not only those selected but those who continue to push for honours).

The squad were actually Carmarthenshire Cup Champions at Under 12s and went on to win the Regional trophy by beating Haverfordwest at Parc Y Scarlets. In fact in that same year our current Under 16’s were Carmarthenshire Cup and Regional Champions at Under 13’s.

Kick off this Sunday is 10.30am in the park and the team and the club would welcome any support from club members who do not usually watch our thriving junior teams.

Junior Rugby Cup Update

Cup rugby is continuing for our Junior teams. A week last Sunday the Under 16s welcomed Carmarthen Athletic to Parc Y Deri in Abergwili and in front of a sizeable crowd the both teams were a credit to their respective clubs and served up a real cracker of a cup tie that was only settled with the last play of the game.

It was the Athletic who took the early plaudits scoring the first try and continued to hold the lead up to the final minute when after some dogged forward play the Quins bundled over the line to take the win 17pts to 15pts.

Try scorers for the Quins were Zac Elvy, Steffan Evans and Gruff Williams, the conversion as scored by Elis Price.

They will now face Llandeilo in the final.

This last weekend the Under 13s had their semi final down in Burry Port and emerged victorious 35pts to 7pts. It was a pleasing performance that parents, players and coaches can be extremely proud of. The scorers in that game were 2 tries for winger Harri Davies, 2 tries for outside half Gwion Evans, 1 try by winger Sam Pearson and 5 conversions to centre Gruff Collier. Whilst we always applaud the scorers on this occasion this was very much a team effort with everyone playing their part in the scores.

The under 14s also continued their journey in the plate competition this weekend and ran out winners against Pontyberem 56pts to 5pts and they now progress to the semi final stage of the competition. The scorers were Ellis Jones 4 tries, Owain Edwards 2 tries, Charlie Thomas, Rhidian John, Rhydian Edwards and Cameron Williams all bagging a try each and Carwyn Jones slotting 3 conversions. Again it was a real team effort with everyone playing their part in a successful morning.

Future cup matches are lines up for the Under 12’s who head to Felinfoel on 6th March kick off time to be confirmed and the Under 15’s host Tumble on Sunday 13th February at the park with a 10.30am kick off.

We know that all age groups welcome any additional support and you will not be disappointed with the standard of rugby served up by these Future Mighty Quins. We will bring you more news as and when the games are played.

Mini and Junior News Round Up

With games generally continuing with the mini and juniors with the odd cancellation as Covid continues to affect some age groups. Thoughts are turning to cup rugby for our Junior teams as they look to progress in their respective age groups in the Carmarthenshire Cup.

Our under 14s played their plate semi final last Sunday at home to Tumble and ran out worthy winners 21-15 in what was a keenly contested game by two sides intent on playing rugby.

Next up are our Under 16s as they host local rivals Carmarthen Athletic in Abergwili this coming Sunday with a 11.15am kick off.

Our Under 13s travel to Burry Port on 6th February, Under 15s host Tumble in the park on 13th February and finally our under 12s travel to Felinfoel on 6th March for their semi final.

We are sure that the squads would like as much support as possible to spur on their efforts to reach the finals.

Our mini section continues to go from strength to strength with our Under 7’s, 8’s 9’s and 11’s playing rugby regularly and enjoying every minute of their rugby development.

There are still spaces across some of the age groups if you have a child who would like to return or even try rugby. Please email cqrfcsocialmedia@gmail.com

After a torrid two years hit by Covid it its testament to the dedication of the players to come back and play rugby and work hard not only for themselves but the junior section and the club as a whole. It also demonstrates that the environment within the junior section focusses on development of individuals as players but also on team development which goes wider than just rugby.

A big thank you to the coaches of the Under 15’s and 16’s who’s hard work has helped the players thrive and prosper and they can be rightly proud of the results so far.

We wish all the players the very best in the their endeavours and we are proud of their achievements and know that they will do the club proud. We look forward to following their journeys. In such a big pool there will always be some who aren’t selected but what we would say to those is keep on doing the work you are doing and your rewards will come.

Strong Representation and Performances for Boys Club Of Wales

Sunday 5th December was another successful day for several of our current junior players. The club is delighted to hear that another member of the club has been called in to the Boys Club of Wales Under 16’s squad. This takes our representation to 5 players. New recruit Dylan Davies joins Elis Thomas, Owain-Hari Davies, Griff Williams and Elis Price (Currently injured).

On Sunday the boys headed east to Merthyr RFC where they were to host Bristol Bears Academy. In a tough game the hosts were up against it at half time losing 17-5 but whatever was said at half time surely worked as the Boys Club of Wales ran in 42 un answered points to win 47 -17.

It was even better for the Quins as the side was captained by Elis Thomas who was also named man of the match by the Bristol coaches.

The club cannot be prouder of the efforts of all involved from the players themselves, coaches and parents. We thank you all and wish you all the best for future successes.

Juniors ready for Cup Action

Its cup weekend again for our junior teams as they go in search of Carmarthenshire Cup Glory. The Under 12s have already played their game and saw off a spirited Penybanc on Sunday 21st November 53 nil scoring 9 tries tries through Jac Johnson (3), Rhys James (2), Mach Hastings (2), Daniel Evans (1) and Macsen Lawicka the tally was finished off with conversions by Macs Hastings (3) and Macs Morgan (1). The team will eagerly await the remaining contests before finding out who their opponents will be for the February Semi Final.

It will be a bumper morning in Abergwili as three out of four sides were drawn at home.

Under 13’s welcome Llandeilo to Abergwili for a kick off of 11.30am. An interesting tie with Coach Gareth Evans also Coaching the Llandeilo side but on Sunday we know there will be no split loyalties and the 13s will be ready to rock.

Under 14s hit the road to Newcastle Emlyn  where they will kick off at 11am.

Under 15s welcome the combined Llandovery/Llandeilo side to Abergwili where the kick off is 10am.

And last but certainly not least there is a huge local derby in the Under 16 age group where we host Carmarthen Athletic to Abergwili for what is the semi final and kick off will be 11am.

We would like to wish all our players the very best of luck in their cup endeavours and we know that each and every one of them would welcome any additional support on the morning.

Aside from the Juniors we cannot forget the future cup players of the club the mini section as the head to Tycroes this Sunday. With good numbers in almost all the age groups the children will be keen to demonstrate their skills and all along with smiles on their faces which is a key part for us as a club that the children develop but enjoy it.

The under 7’s, and under 8’s  will kick off at 10.30am while the Under 9’s kick off at 11.30am.

The Under 11’s are off to Kidwelly to face Kidwelly and Ammanford in a Round Robin kicking off at 10.30am.

If you have a child that would like to try out rugby or return to rugby then please drop us a message on any of our social media channels or email our Junior Secretary Neil Evans on d4ddo@hotmail.co.uk who will put you in contact with the relevant age group.

Once again good luck to the Future Mighty Quins in all your games this weekend.
