QUINS LEAVE Colwyn Bay EMPTY HANDED

It was another disappointing performance from the Quins as they were unable to consistently fire shots at RGC.

RGC opened the scoring through their Loosehead prop. After a fine move from RGC saw them gaining in the wide channel. A great try saving tackle from centre Ryan Davies wasn’t enough as RGC went over the whitewash in the phase after.

Furthermore, some good play from Quins saw them 10m out from the RGC try line but inaccuracy at the breakdown allowed RGC to gain a turnover. RGC found space in the backfield with the ball bouncing in their favour. RGC managed to hack the ball through and retrieve the ball with their outside half dotting down.

RGC’s third try came from dominant forward play as they pick and go continuously to power over the white wash.

Just before half time, captain Josh Batcup was harshly yellow carded. RGC took advantage of that and scored a well played first phase try with the full back finishing in the corner.

Half time score; RGC 28 – 0 Quins

RGC were first to score in the second half through a penalty goal.

Quins did show some resilience and winger Dylan Richards scored in the left hand corner after some hard work from the Quins forwards.

This time is was winger Iestyn Gwilliam to dot down after some excellent play from number 8 Lewys Millin, offloading ‘out the back door’ to put Gwilliam away in the corner.

RGC had the final say as they powered over in the final moments of the game.

Final Score; RGC 38 – 12 Carmarthen Quins

QUINS FALL SHORT AT CARMARTHEN PARK

It was a bad day at the office for the Carmarthen boys.

After the forwards fronted up for the full 80 minutes, unfortunately we lost the kicking battle and four errors cost us four tries.

Credit to Bridgend for capitalising on our errors.

We now have a weekend off and look forward to proving a point versus Premiership new comers Pontypool.

Carmarthen Quins 31 – 54 LLANDOVERY RFC

Quins earn a point in a disappointing display.

After a positive and promising pre season, the Quins fall short in the opening round of fixtures.

The Drovers’ centre Rhodri Jones opened the scoring with a late hard run, piercing the Quins defensive line to go over from 5 metres. Jack Maynard converted from under the sticks (0-7).

After the ball somehow popped out from the breakdown, Drovers 9 Lee Rees was the first to react and had 40 metre run in to seal Llandovery’s second try. Maynard converted (0-14).

It was the Quins’ turn to strike next through hooker Torin Myhil. After some quick speed of ball and playing to the edges, the Drovers defensive line finally broke down, with Myhil slicing through. Wilson converts (7-14).

Wilson Penalty Kick (10-14).

Drovers second row Joe Powell earned the drovers another 5 points as he scored from short range. Maynard accurate again (10-21).

On the brink of half time, Llandovery struck again. This time through Osian Davies. Maynard converts (10-28).

Half Time

Drovers started the second half on top. Relentless pressure meant that Guto Jones touched down for Llandovery with Maynard converting (10-35)

Drovers winger Harri Doel looked dangerous all afternoon and he eventually had his reward in the corner, earning Llandovery’s sixth try of the afternoon ((10-35).

It was Doel again to score next with some individual brilliance, evading two Quins players to score his 2nd of the afternoon. Ioan Hughes converts (10-47).

Finally a Quins score and Sion Jones scored from close range. Wilson converting (17-47).

Nathan Hart scored Llandovery’s final match of the afternoon with Hughes converting (17-54).

Scarlets product Charlie Titcombe came off the bench for the Quins to produce a splendid pass out wide to set up winger Corum Nott who dived over in the corner. Wilson with a touchline conversion (24-54).

Another bit of individual magic from Titcombe, chipping over the top and regathering before setting up substitute scrum half, Lucca Setaro to score the final points of the afternoon. Wilson accurate once again with the boot.
