Abergwili 7’s Appeal for Volunteers – Saturday 3rd June 2023
In June 2022 Carmarthen Quins hosted the inaugural West Wales leg of the Welsh 7’s series.
The event consisted of two tournaments, namely Elite and Youth teams. The Elite teams included high-quality sides such as Carmarthen Warriors, British Army, British Navy, Prostate Cymru and other elite teams from across Wales. The Quins Youth participated in the Youth Tournament which again was represented from teams across South Wales in particular.
The feedback received after last year’s tournaments was extremely positive, and it was an event the club can be rightly proud of. We have again been asked by the competition organisers to host this year’s tournament on Saturday 3rd June.
The Quins Youth, who are enjoying a successful 22/23 season, intend to enter the 7’s again this year. We are also planning to add a third event this year, namely a female tournament, in addition to the Elite and Youth categories.
It is perhaps opportune to explain that there were several reasons for agreeing to hold the tournament, not least of which was the opportunity for each section of the club (Senior / Youth and Junior sections) to come together and host a tournament for the benefit of everyone involved with Carmarthen Quins RFC. One of the main objectives was to ensure that all proceeds raised from 2022 and this year’s events will be reinvested into the maintenance and development of facilities at Abergwili.
We also need to be honest and say, if there was one negative about last year’s event, it was without doubt the fact that we needed more people to come forward to assist with the gates, car parks and other stewarding duties.
Our aim is to make this year’s tournament a bigger success than 2022 but we cannot achieve this without the support of more volunteers.
There will be more information posted about the 7’s during the coming weeks, however, in the meantime, please contact your representatives at Senior, Youth and Junior levels and put your name forward to help for a few hours on 3rd June. It will make a huge difference not just to the event but to the longer-term development of the club.
