Brief History & Season’s Fixtures

The Carmarthen Thursday XV team was formed in 1897 when the then Carmarthen Wanderers Football Club (the term “rugby” was to be included much later) created two separate teams known as the Thursday XV and the Saturday XV. Many of the town’s young men who wished to participate in the game had to work every Saturday. Hence the reason to create another team that could play on a Thursday. As this was a similar problem with other local teams they also set up a Thursday side which meant they could put together a fixture list as can be seen below.

The following fixtures have been arranged by the Carmarthen Thursday Football Club for the season 1907-08. We are requested to point out that they are liable to alteration, and the open dates for which no matches have been arranged are not included in this list.

The Captain for the season is Walter Williams and Vice-captain Frank Taylor whilst F. G. Lewis and W. J. Evans act as Treasurer and secretary respectively.

(There are reports in the Welshman of the Thursdays having played several other local teams this season e.g. Laugharne and Burry Port).
