Carmarthen Quins RFC welcomes the SRC Governance Committee’s decision following its review of the SRC Cup Round 1 fixture against Newport RFC on 24 January 2026. The committee acknowledged the exceptional circumstances surrounding the uncontested scrums, which arose after injuries to both the starting and replacement hookers.
The Governance Committee noted that a third hooker, Shaun Evans, was available and fully experienced at professional level, but could not be named pre-match due to the limitations of the current digital team sheet system. The resulting requirement to play with 14 players and uncontested scrums, in our view, had a material bearing on the match outcome. While the referee acted in accordance with the rules with the information available at the time, the committee recognised that the club was disadvantaged by the system rather than any failing of personnel or procedure.
The committee has therefore exonerated Carmarthen Quins RFC and offered the option to replay the fixture. Due to the time constraints involved and our priority to protect player welfare, we were unable to rearrange the fixture. We are grateful to our players, staff, and supporters for their understanding and continued support. No further comment will be made.
