QUINS STOP DROVERS EARNING ALL FIVE POINTS

Carmarthen Quins put on a spirited display as they stopped Llandovery gaining a home bonus point win for the first time this season.

*MATCH REPORT BY WRU*

If it had been a stroll in Carmarthen Park for the champions when the two sides met for the first time this season on the opening weekend, with the Drovers winning 54-31, this time there was no try-fest as the home side were held to three tries.

To their huge credit the Quins defended with immense gusto from first to last and kept their line intact in a hectic opening quarter. The stalemate was finally broken when ex-London Irish lock Ed Scragg smashed his way over.

The Drovers soon added another through wing Aaron Warren to make it just 12-0 at the break. Soon after outside half Ioan Hughes added a penalty to his earlier conversion to stretch the home advantage to 15 points.

The Quins kept on tackling to stifle home adventure until a close-range line out worked in hooker Taylor Davies’ favour and he plunged over for Llandovery’s third try.

Thomas Curry topped with defensive stats with 20 tackles (100%) whilst Leon Randell beat the most defenders in attack (7).

Full time – Llandovery 20 – 0  Carmarthen Quins

QUINS TEAM TO FACE EBBW AWAY

Your Carmarthen Quins team to face Ebbw Vale away tomorrow;

Dale Ford returns to Fullback for the first time since last season as he add experience between wingers Dylan Richards and Corum Nott. Fullback Leon Randell remains at inside centre with Scarlets product Iestyn Gwilliam joining him at outside centre. Jac Wilson moves to his natural position as he looks to steer the ship from outside half. The ever experienced Rhodri Davies keeps his spot at scrum half.

Lewys Millin continues his fine form from 8 with the hard hitting captain, Tom Phillips at 6. Gethin Davies earns a starting spot at openside flanker. Recent centurion Josh Helps is paired up with Ryan Bean in the second row. An unchanged front row of James, Morgan and Newnian take the field again.

Prop Will Caron Lewis could make his quins debut if given the opportunity with Lee Taylor, Tom Curry and Josh Batcup adding value and experience from the bench.

A bright light went out today

All at Carmarthen Quins are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of former seconds team player, Mel Evans. Our condolences go to Mel’s wife, Claire, and children, Charlie and Freddie.

Mel was a larger than life character who would always put others first, doing anything for anybody. Mel will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace, Mel Evans.

GEM NESAF

This coming Saturday we travel to Ebbw Vale.

Currently, Ebbw sit in second place with 8 wins from 11 games (39 points) with only Llandovery ahead of them on 44 points.

Ebbw will be looking to bounce back after a narrow defeat to Aberavon in their last league fixture, losing 24 – 13.

The quins are looking for their first W under new head coach Lyndon Lewis. Will this coming Saturday be the turning point?

Come and support the boys at the Cinner Glass Stadium.
