Quins earn a point under the lights

With head coach Lyndon Lewis unable to attend, it was Josh Turnbull who took the reigns on Friday Night.

On the whole Josh can be very proud of the defensive effort we showed, especially in the first half. The quins boys really fronted up against a big Cardiff side.

After sustained pressure, it was Morgan Allen who powered over in the corner to get Cardiff on the score board first. Conversion successful.

Quins bounced back through individual brilliance from Lewys Millin. Conversion unsuccessful.

It was Cardiff’s turn to get over the whitewash again after a driving maul proved to be too much for the quins forwards to defend. Conversion successful.

Quins were looking clinical in the red zone. As the referee awarded us a penalty, roughly 15m from Cardiff’s try line, it was none other than Rhodri Davies who tapped and went before beating two defenders to dive over the whitewash. Conversion converted.

Cardiff had the final say when it came to tries with another driving maul try.

Both fly halves had a single penalty kick to tally the remainder of the points.

Carmarthen Quins 18 – 24 Cardiff RFC

QUINS FIGHTBACK A 20 POINT DEFICIT TO EARN A POINT

After a long bus journey down for the boys up North, it was RGC who came out of the blocks the quickest.

RGC earned a penalty in the Quins’ half where captain Bagshaw pointed for the sticks. Earl Jones slotted the penalty. 0-3

After a poor kick chase from the Quins, it was Earl Jones again who beat two players before passing inside for a 20 metre run in. Conversion was good. 0 -10

Quins started to grow into the game and started to go through the phases. Whilst making their way up the field, a pass was intercepted, with RGC running 60 meters to dot down over the white wash. 0 – 17.

RGC earned themselves a further 3 points before the break.

HT: Quins 0 – 20 RGC

The Quins struck first after half time with some excellent work up front. A penalty kick to the corner from Titcombe allowed Quins to get their Catch and Drive game flowing. Hooker Morgan went over. No extras were added. 5 – 20

More sustained pressure from the Quins saw RGC down to 14. Pressure told with debutant McDonald hitting a superb line of Archie Hughes to score under the posts. Titcombe converted. 12 – 20

Unfortunately, Quins were only able to gain a further 3 points which resulted in a single point.

Full time; Carmarthen Quins 15 – 20 RGC

QUINS CAST A SPELL OVER THR WIZARDS

Carmarthen Quins took all 5 points on offer against Aberavon on Saturday.

It was great to see the Quins playing some expensive rugby with some excellent defensive sets mixed in.

The half centurion Rhodri Davies was on fine form bagging himself two tries alongside two excellent assists.

Full time score: Quins 56 – 17 Aberavon RFC
