Carmarthen Quins 2nds made the short journey to their local rivals Carmarthen Athletic for the first league meeting of the season and it was the quins who came away with a hard fought victory by 14 points to 5. It was a typical local derby full of passion, comittment but on the day the quins took their chances and desrved the win. Credit to the Athletic groundstaff for getting the game on, both sides tried to play rugby in very poor conditions, but in the end the quins pack of forwards were the difference on the day. Captain Ricky Davies was immense backed up by Leighton Daniels and Alex Comey, with young Aled Evans putting in a massive defensive shift. Behind the quins backline stopped any athletic attacks with Dion Howells and Martain Penralirick immense in midfield and young youth product Steff Davies controlling the game at outside half. The match winner for the quins was Lloyd Williams who kept the score board ticking over with his goal kicking after very poor discipline from the athletic. Both sides played their part in a very entertaining game, but the quins will hold the bragging rights for a few weeks, and deserved their victory Try scorer for the quins was Alex Comey, with Lloyd Williams kicking 3 penalties.
Next up for the quins will be a home game against Bonymaen on February 16th.
