Carmarthen Quins 2nds. travelled to Llangennech, who were sitting at the top of the table, and came away with an outstanding 10 – 0 victory.
The visitors had to put in a huge defensive effort to stem the Llangennech tide in the first half as the home side threw everything at them. However, on such a hot day, fitness was bound to tell and the Quins finished much the stronger.
Up front Captain, Ricky Davies, was outstanding at prop with the rest of the pack all working hard both in defence and in attack. Behind the backs were always looking to run the ball. Olly Thomas made some brilliant individual breaks and Dion Thomas had another great day for his team making a number of important defensive tackles and constantly running hard at the Llangennech defence whenever the opportunity arose.
The early stalemate in the match was broken by a Dan Bartley drop goal and then winger, Thomas James, was introduced and he made a huge impact with his strength and pace. James made the match-winning try for the Quins and George Gleeson added the extras.
This was an important win for the Quins but the camp is not getting carried away and next week will concentrate on Morriston, who have also made a bright start to the season.
