Carmarthen Quins 2nds. entertained Narberth on a rain-soaked Abergwili ground and were made to work very hard for their 34 – 9 victory. The wet conditions suited the big, heavy Narberth pack and the constant rain made handling very difficult indeed.
The Quins forwards worked their socks off led once again by captain, Ricky Davies. Front row men Paul Gravell and Daf Bowen were always asking to carry the ball and the back row of Mathew Morgan, Liam Fitzpatrick and David Halpin were everywhere in defence. This back row was instrumental in the Quins gaining dominance in the second half.
It was not a day for handling the ball in the backs but one young player, Lloyd Williams, had gas to burn on the wing and was ably backed up by centres Dion Howells and Martain Penraulick. These centres put in some huge hits and carried the ball brilliantly. Scrum half, Olly Thomas, was his usual busy self.
Carmarthen did take control of the game after the interval when their fitness took effect. The strong bench was used wisely and some excellent tries were created so that once again the team came away with a bonus point victory.
Huge thanks must be given to match day sponsor, Ian Stone. The team now play away next week against top of the table, Llangennech.
Tries ~ Ricky Davies, Thomas James, Dion Thomas (2), Liam Fitzpatrick, and Martain Penraulick.
Conversions ~ George Gleeson & Dan Bartley
