Carmarthen Quins played Whitland at Abergwili and ran out deserved winners by 21 points to 6. It was a game full of passion and commitment in tricky conditions but it was the home pack which laid the foundations for the victory.
The pack as a whole played well with the back row of Liam Fitzpatrick, Aled Evans and Gordon Lewis being particularly impressive. Ricky Davies and Daf Bowen had probably their best games for the club and Tom Smyths also caught the eye with some strong running.
Behind the scrum Olly Thomas, Dion Howells and Alun Howells had strong games and Martain Penralerick was always keen to counter attack. However, it was young Lloyd Williams who proved to be the match winner with a try and two penalties to his name.
This win completed the double over Whitland but they proved a tough nut to crack and in the end it was probably the fitness of the Quins pack which made the difference between the two sides. This win also keeps the Quins top of the league but next week they are away to Waunarlywdd so will wish to keep their feet firmly planted and not get carried away with success.
